How to choose the right video editing solution

Filming a great video is just the beginning. Before you can share that video on social media or YouTube, you’ve got to edit it. And you won’t get very far without choosing the right video editor for you.

Video content creators often feel overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of video editing tools that are available. On the one hand, it’s good that there are so many tools because there is no one-size-fits-all solution for video editing. You may end up needing multiple softwares for different situations and tasks. But it can be hard to sift through all of the available tools and figure out which ones you really need.

That’s why we’re here. We’re going to break down some of the best tools on the market so that you can choose the right video editing solution for you.

How to Choose the Right Video Editing Solution

1. Adobe Premiere Pro

Adobe Premiere Pro is a professional online video editor that helps craft footage into polished films and videos. This tool is known for its responsive interface and integrated work process. Plans for Premiere Pro start at $20.99/month.

Pros: Adobe Premiere Pro is perfect for when you have a video that requires multiple cuts, camera angles, or need advanced graphics included.

Cons: Because it’s a professional software, it can have a bit of a learning curve and isn’t quite as user-friendly as some other video editors. It’s also not the easiest solution for social media prep.

Alternate solution: Final Cut Pro

2. iMovie

iMovie is a video editing software developed by Apple. With iMovie, you can create 4K-resolution videos, add special effects, and switch back and forth between Apple devices while editing. This app is included for free on every Apple device

Pros: As mentioned above, if you’re an Apple person, iMovie is the native video editing app included on every Apple device. Another plus is that it was created to work for both professional and amateur video editors, so it has a much more user-friendly interface. This tool is great for creating polished videos for social media or YouTube (without spending a ton of time).

Cons: The flip side of it being a native Apple application is that you can’t utilize this tool if you don’t own a Mac, iPhone, or iPad. Because it’s a simplified video editor, it doesn’t have the full capabilities of a professional video editor (like Adobe Premiere Pro).

Alternate solution: Premiere Rush

3. Adobe After Effects

Adobe After Effects is a digital visual effects, motion graphics, and compositing application. This tool offers a timeline and node-based approach to animation and provides its users with a professional toolset that makes its capabilities pretty all-encompassing. Plans for After Effects start at $20.99/month.

Pros: This tool is considered to be the industry standard for visual effects and motion graphics, so it’s great for when you want to create really high-quality animations.

Cons: While After Effects is great for animations and motion graphics, it may not be ideal for editing your footage. It’s also more advanced, like Premiere Pro. It’s built to be professional-grade software, so if you’re new to video editing or not looking for expensive software with tons of different capabilities and features, then After Effects might not be for you.

Alternate solution: Apple Motion

4. Animaker

Animaker is a DIY video animation software for creating social media videos with text animations. With just a few clicks, you can create eye-popping animation videos using a drag-and-drop builder. Plus, it’s used by major brands like Amazon, Bosch, Nokia, and more. Animaker offers a free plan (with limited capabilities) for content creators who want to try out the program. Their paid plans start at $10/month.

Pros: This tool is made for beginners and professionals alike, so it offers various levels of customization (including templates if you don’t want to do any designing yourself). It also provides different video makers/templates optimized for YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, etc.

Cons: This is a DIY tool that is hardly intended to be professional-grade software. So many options and capabilities are very limited, especially compared to some of the professional video editors we’ve already covered.

Alternate solution: Biteable

5. Zubtitle
