How to repurpose videos for Instagram Reels

We all want to get the most mileage out of our videos. And it’s especially important to make sure that we’re always sharing video content on the most popular platforms, where our target audience hangs out the most. Instagram is one of those platforms where most brands and creators are likely to find their audience. And, when it comes to Instagram, nothing is more popular right now than Reels.

We know you don’t have the time or bandwidth to create entirely new content for Reels every week. That’s why we’re here to show you how to repurpose videos for Instagram Reels, so you can get more out of the videos you already have and get more time back in your day.

How to Repurpose Videos for Instagram Reels

1. Choose your original video

When it comes to what videos you can repurpose for Instagram Reels, you have a couple of options. Obviously, Instagram Reels is intended for short videos (up to 90 seconds). So you could take a short video that you’ve already shared on another platform geared towards short-form video (like TikTok or YouTube Shorts).

Keep in mind that if you download a video you shared on TikTok, you’ll need to remove the TikTok watermark in order for your video to perform optimally on Instagram Reels. We’ve shared four ways to do that here.

You could also take a longer video, like a YouTube video, and repurpose it for Instagram Reels. All you have to do is break your YouTube video up into “micro” videos. To create micro pieces of content like this, it’s best to choose a video that has a few obvious points, so that it’s easier to naturally break up.

If, for example, you take a video with 5 main points, you can then divide it into 5 separate videos to cover each point and post them at different times. That’s 5 new Instagram Reels that you just created from a single video.

2. Duplicate your video

Once you’ve picked your original video, you’ll probably want to be able to keep an original copy and possibly even edit it multiple times (especially if you’ve chosen a long video that you’ll want to keep fully intact). The best way to do this is with Zubtitle! With our new Duplicate function, you can create as many copies as you want of your original video, eliminating the need to upload the same original video over and over again.

All you have to do is sign up for a free account (or log in to your account, if you already have one) and upload your original video. The first screen that you’ll see is a place to trim your video. You can skip that for this time and move onto the next screen. There, in the upper right hand menu, you’ll see an option to duplicate. You can use that button to duplicate your original video as many times as you want. For example, if you’re taking a longer video that you want to turn into five micro-videos, go ahead and duplicate that original video five times. Now you can trim and edit those duplicates and keep an original, unedited copy, all in one place.

3. Trim your video

Once you’ve duplicated your video, you can start editing those duplicates. Take your first one, for example, and trim it down to just the section you want for your first micro-video. Just use our simple point and drag editor to quickly trim the front and back end of your video until you’ve got the exact clip you need. When you have the exact section you want, move on to the next screen.

4. Resize & optimize your video

Now that you have your trimmed video, all you have to do is resize and optimize it so it performs well on Instagram. And you can do it in just a couple of clicks with Zubtitle! The fastest way to resize and optimize your video for Instagram Reels is by choosing a template from the Default list. Just navigate to the Templates option on the right-hand menu bar and sort the options by the Instagram filter.
